Think Green

26 10 2008

After having a long break from painting and war gaming I thought it was time for a change from the dwarfs. And with all the talk of climate change I thought I should do my bit to help out and go green. So with that in mind I got to work and planned out a green army, well, green skinned army to be more accurate. So at the moment I’ve got about 140 models to paint for my new orc horde, which consists of 4 huge units of orcs, along with chariots, boar boyz and a giant to add a bit of extra muscle. I have to admit that I’ve done very little painting for this army as I am currently lacking the inspiration and motivation to paint them but I have managed to paint an orc shaman, a black orc war boss, a chariot and about 10 black orcs.

I then recently heard in the news that petrol prices were beginning to drop so I thought I would take advantage of this and start a Speed Freaks army for 40k. So, I am now in the process of building up bikers and quad bike for my warboss while I put the finishing touches on my 1500pt army list. So far I’ve gone for bikes, boyz and of course their ever so trusty vehicles for the boyz to ride in. So for the next few months I am going to be bogged down painting even more green skin, while building so funky vehicles.

My main problem is going to be finding a fast and effective way of painting the skin, as the models I’ve painted for my fantasy orc horde have had up to seven different shades of green, which to be fair has worked out nicely but it has taken quite a bit of time to do, along with quite a bit of my depleting level of sanity.

When the weather brightens up a bit I will try and take some photos of what I’ve painted or built so far to serve as evidence that I am still alive, and more importantly, to prove that I am still building and painting an army.

It’s a Waaagh-de-ful World

I see battlefields of green…. Gretchin too
I see ‘em fight… For me, not for you
And I think to myself… What a Waaagh-de-ful World

But seriously, what have I been up to with the ol’ Orks..? Well, after a serious bout of swapsies, I’m sitting upon a nice horde, with only a few more elements remaining to get. Erm, that’s about it really… I’ve got to start assembling the blighters and work out how to paint them now!

I’m considering a Bad Moonz themed force, so boyz (mostly shootas) supported by shiny goodies, which will take DakkaDakka.com’s Ork Tactica prize for being a rubbish choice which won’t win anything, but hey ho…

Painting wise, I’m considering a mixture of washes, basic highlights and then Army Painter dip for that “for Mork’s sake, I ain’t got the time” finishing touch… I just have to get some test miniatures assembled first… Watch this space! But don’t hold your breath!
