Oi whatcha lookin at

18 03 2007

Woohoo, I’ve managed to finish my painting early (though I doubt I’ll make a habit of it), and in time to use them when I go away.

I enjoyed painting the Orcs so I’ll have to try and ignore the urge to paint an army of them.  For April I shall paint some horsemen although looking at the army book it will only give me a 70pts boost.  Im gonna have to think long and hard as to what I’m going to paint in the following months that will increase the size of my army and add to the punch of it.

Happy painting and here are the pics here, here, here and here

The Death Bell tolls

12 03 2007

This is where I tell you about all the painting I’ve done… I did in fairness, paint most of a Blood Dragon and in Three months that’s pretty good going. (I got confused.. He wasn’t even carrying an Axe!)  but my figures and army got lost in transit. along with my dwarfs… Khorne army, flames of war, samurai…. Hell most of my figures. And a lot of other stuff too. So I’m in the process of writting out one hell of an insurance claim. In 2 weeks I lose my internet connection, as I’m moving again… but on the bright side, no Xbox live…. *sniff*…and that means I might actually get round to painting the few figures I have, and then getting ones to replace those lost… Watch this space… But not too closely… I’ll catch up eventually.

A minor glimpse at Sigmar’s fury… Honest

Pics of my painted models so far…I’ve been harassed by kahuna to show something so in desperation I shot some pics off my phone…pretty bad quality but until I can find my digital camera they’ll have to do.

The furry menace…

11 03 2007

For this challenge I’ve chosen an army that I’ve come back too time and time again, the terror that is Chaos.  This army is going to be mostly based on the Beasts of Chaos army list as I want to incorparate the character Morghur Master of Skulls, the creater of champions and spawn alike (plus the the pointy eared Wood Elves hate him- woohoo!)

So here are Jan and Feb’s figures painted

1 Beast Herd £18 here

1 Wargor £8 here

1 Bray Shaman £6 here

1 Beast Chariot £15 here

This will leave me £3 in the kitty for future use.

For March I’m looking to paint up

Morghur Master of Skulls £8

1 Beast Chariot £15

Meaning I’ll have £5 in total for the kitty… Decisions, decisions…

Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!

6 03 2007

Its the end of the first two months of the new year and we all know what that means; time to show the world my brand new sparkling figures.  So here are the pics of the finished figs, I apologise for the quality, my camera’s old and I think its time for me to invest in a new one:

The Champion of Tzeentch

Tzeentch Chaos Warrior Unit

Marauder unit

So whats next for me in March?  Well as I’m going away in March with some of the lads to play Bloodbowl, I’ll need to paint up a team, in this case Orcs.  So although I won’t be painting up any chaos figures I’ll still post pics of my painted figures before the end of the month as normal.  For April I’m gonna paint up some Marauder Cavalry (£25), as I fancy a change from painting foot troops, but the main reason is that I’ve just been watching Conan again and I love cavalry in the film and I feel inspired.

I hope everyone is enjoying this as much as I am and look forward to seeing everyone’s results

Happy painting

… Bogenhafen marshals the troops *trumpet sound*

5 03 2007

SO… The first deadline is reached (well for the most part… Scowls in certain direction) and my £50 budget is painted up. It was hard going but I now have a collection of painted miniatures in the colours of Bogenhafen.

I purchased:

  • 1 wizard – £6
  • 1 engineer – £4
  • 1 templar grand master – £9
  • 10 handgunners, various bits, 8 knights (5 painted up to make a unit of 6 with grand master) and mortar and crew – bought from ebay – £22.70 with P&P.
  • = £41.70 (£8.30 remaining)

For those who know me I really dislike bright unrealistic colours on miniatures, who would go to war wearing white and yellow?? So I’ve used a lot of dark colours with cream and purple as the signature palette. When I came to paint up my knights I wanted to represent their significance and importance so used a lot of gold/brass and blue which made them look very opulent. I shied away from silver as it’s too obvious and went for lacquered armour. In terms of what I actually painted – I kept my target quite simple as I knew I’d only get a small amount done on my first attempts. Images will follow as I attempt to find my camera and take some unfuzzy focused shots… FOR SIGMAR!

New Month – New Figures

5 03 2007

Well, as predicted, work has been madness.  The time spent at Christmas was pretty much it for painting, less a couple of diversions into some Bloodbowl figures.

At least I have my 500pts sorted.

So, what next?  With a fresh £25 to spend I can look at almost anything in the Army Book.  Two Core units means I can get a second or even a third Special choice with out difficulty, so that’s where I’ll look.  The Army Book offers Warhawk Riders, Treekin and Riders of Kournos, but I already have 3 Warhawks….. hang on a minute, £2 left from last months plus £25 equals £27; that’s three more Warhawks giving a unit of six.  That’s sorted then.

On top of the Warhawks I have made some Treekin from spare parts and sticks from the Garden, I am pretty happy with them and once painted should fit in with my Dryads.  This gives me another 4 figures to paint, so 10 in total with the Warhawks.

Points wise, this adds two Special units to my growing Army:

Noble, longbow, great weapon, light armour, Doom Arrow:

111 pts

12 Glade Guard, full command, Banner of Springtide:

199 pts

8 Dryads:

96 pts

5 Wardancers:

90 pts

4 Treekin:

260 pts

6 Warhawk Riders:

240 pts

Total Points:

996 pts

Look at that, two units, only 10 figures and a nice tidy 500 point boost.

So for this month, I have chosen 10 ‘ogre’ sized figures – probably a challenge, but what the hell.  It also gives me a 1000pt force and opens up next month for a Rare Choice or some Characters.  Let the Hunt begin.

Santilargo: Chris takes his armies very seriously… In fitting with the Wood Elves’ synergy with nature, he has started organically creating and recycling his miniatures… If you don’t believe me, check out this, this, this and of course, this!

Blame Kahuna… Somehow…

1 03 2007

Obviously with today being the 1st March, I’ll be unveiling my painted miniatures. Alá Chris a month ago. Ahem. Yes. Well. Erm. Well. Erk. It wasn’t my fault, you see, climate change, Kahuna, China’s Share prices dropping, The Government, Kahuna (no really!), White undercoat (What kind of twit, working to a strict timescale, undercoats miniatures that would be better served with a black undercoat in white? Oh yes. Me), the fact I’m never in at the weekends. Ever, Kahuna (always out there. Waiting. Watching), the fact I drive a Rover, 23 out of 24 hours a day are spent trying to keep it running, having attempted to hold a Taiji position for longer than  0.01 seconds, I collapsed into a coma and didn’t wake up til now, Kahuna (it’s all his fault! Somehow…), those bloody arrows on the helmets… I mean really, have you seen how fiddly they are? Taking painting tips from Skilling via Russ necessitated a trip down the Emergency Ward and much intrusive surgery. I’m just able to sit down now… (You’ll either get that or you won’t) Pocoyo. Kahuna! Kahuna! Kahuna! Beard envy. All these have all contributed to me not quite (well just not) reaching the deadline… Erm. Ok actually, it’s just because I’m crap

Yes even Pete has done it. And he had more miniatures than me… @_@

So I sit here now (typing at work, rather than actually surveying my miniatures) and note I have 5 half-painted Hobgoblins and are also 4 Chaos Dwarfs short of the target…

So next month’s painting schedule becomes simple:

A sorcerer – probably about £7.00 in today’s money

A Death Rocket – probably £12.00

Grand total of £19.00

Leaving me with £6.00 for next month… And about 8 miniatures to paint… By then joined by pictures… Unless you are all suitably desperate to see badly painted Chaos Dwarfs this month… Comments below…

Right. I’m off to paint and hide from everyone… The shame!
